Quiet connections

I was updating my team on the project we would be working on the following day, when this young girl approached me and took my hand. I had seen her several times that week, but hadn’t had the chance to talk with her. She was always busy taking care of 2 small children, the youngest was usually being carried on her back. I took a break from the update and tried speaking with her but received no response. As I continued the update with my team, she examined every detail of my hand, turning it from side to side to complete the examination. I am not sure what she was thinking, but her gentle curiosity is unforgettable. I continued to see her the remaining days of the trip. She never spoke to me, but would always sit near and watch. Sometimes a connection can be made without ever saying a word. I am grateful for quiet connections.
